We are a community school catering for children aged 4+ to 11 years.

The maximum number it is planned to accept into the 4+ age group in the academic year 2000/2001 is 17.

Aims of the School

The aims of Byfield School have been produced as a result of collaboration between the governors, the headteacher, the teaching staff and the non-teaching staff of the school.

Achievement

-Byfield School is concerned with achievement, both academic and non academic
-We aim to prepare children for the next stage in their school career and for end of key stage tests
-Children are given every encouragement to do their best in all that they do and teaching is both stimulating and exciting
-Those who work here seek to praise and reward the children for their achievements
-We hope that children at this school are happy and learn to become self-motivated
-Our children are given opportunities to develop spiritually; through activities such as music, painting and periods of silence they are encouraged to feel a sense of awe and wonder

Respect and Behaviour

-At Byfield School children and adults aim to treat one another with respect
-Everyone is expected to behave in a good way and to look after equipment and the environment
-Our care for each other and the environment extends beyond the school boundary and into the world around us

Community

-Our place in the local community is of great importance and we aim to continue this tradition
-Byfield School values the contact that it has with various groups and individuals in the local community (for example, members of the community who help in school, use of the village as a teaching resource and good school/church liaison)
-We recognise that there is little cultural diversity in the area and therefore introduce the children to a variety of cultures and traditions

We think our school is good because of these things:

We have lots of Literacy and Numeracy lessons
Our classrooms are really big
If you don't understand something the teachers help you
There are lots of books and other equipment
The teachers are strict about bullying and fighting
There are classroom assistants who give extra help
Computers are important at our school
The PTA raises a lot of money for extra things
Lessons are interesting and easy to understand
We go to interesting places, such as Warwick Castle, the Isle of Wight and France
There are lots of after school clubs including sport, art and choir
We can learn to play musical instruments like the recorder, cello, violin, keyboard and guitar
PE lessons are fun. We have a lot of good, new apparatus
Visitors come to tell us about things that they know
Ours is a friendly school
