Golf Club
Byfield Golf Society was founded in 1980 by 9 golfing fanatics from the village. Sadly many have now passed on or moved on, but the Society thrives and currently has 33 members. As members have moved the original membership rule of “living within two miles of the village” has been dropped and the Society now has members from as far afield as Banbury, Daventry and Northampton, not to mention a Life Member in Doncaster and a paid up member living in Northumberland (though we don’t see him much these days).
The Society meets to play golf 15 times a year, visiting a variety of courses both in our local area and further afield, including neighbouring counties. We compete for a number of trophies during the year and we have revived a local Derby fixture against Chipping Warden, competing for the Byfield Driver.
Our annual dinner is held at a local hostelry, where we award the glittering prizes and enjoy the social side of our beloved sport.
For further information, and details of how to join, please contact the Secretary, Bob Cubitt on 01327 262770, or by e-mail on bob.cubitt@royalmail.co.uk. Golfers of all standards are always welcomed.
